Audacious lies from the “free press” about stem cell trials

Posted on January 14, 2009. Filed under: Uncategorized |

No less a paper than the Chicago Tribune reported recently that Geron Corp were about to begin the nation’s first human clinical trials of its embryonic stem cell-derived drug as a spinal cord treatment and blames lack of government funding for the slowness of the process.

Really! Why on earth should the government fund a profit-based public company. Is this yet another example of well-funded companies drinking deep at the public trough?

Further, Geron have been announcing for years upcoming human clinical trials – none of which has eventuated. Why would they want to risk failure through rejection of the stem cells by the recipient or the probable tumor development? What a hoax.

Worse, the heading of the article read: “First Human Stem Cell Clinical Trial”.  This is either lazy journalism at best and a deliberate misleading of the gullible public at worst. Look at http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/results?term=Adult+Stem+Cells and as a matter of public record you will find some 2284 studies with a search of adult stem cells!!!!!

What you are expected to believe is that embryonic stem cells (which to date have not been used on humans) are the stem cells that matter THUS IGNORING THE THOUSANDS OF PATIENTS WHO HAVE BEEN HELPED AROUND THE WORLD BY ADULT STEM CELLS. Lies like those above prevent millions from getting the help they need, safely and effectively right now.
